about the site

I hesitate to call any movie my favorite, because it's hard picking a favorite anything, but Pacific Rim is damn close. I went and saw it three times in theaters — something I haven't done since Inception — and each time I just plain enjoyed it more than the last. I've watched it another three or four times since it came out on Blu-Ray, and every time I find myself grinning like a fool the whole way through. It's a movie about saving the world through giant robots beating up kaiju. What's not to love about it?

But Pacific Rim takes it a step further and made me care about the characters, too. It made me fall in love with Mako Mori, whose character arc is something I'd love to see more of in films. Mako and Stacker's relationship, in particular, is such a rare thing to see in modern-day media, and I love the hell out of it.

Then, of course, there's all the fantastic worldbuilding, from the overarching premise to the little touches, the gorgeous direction (especially the use of color), and the incredible art design... and, yeah, Pacific Rim is kind of my favorite movie. Whoops. (And don't get me started on the music.)

This layout isn't what I wanted to make, but it's what came out and I don't entirely hate it, so there you go. It's the IMAX poster for the film — I never got to see it in IMAX myself, which is a shame because I bet it was awesome. The background is from subtlepatterns. Special thanks to Screencapped.net's caps, which I used for the codes.
