Since the release of Halo: Combat Evolved on the original Xbox in 2001, the Halo franchise has been nothing short of a juggernaut. The success of the series has led to its expansion into novels, comics, and even a live-action film.

Halo focuses on the war between humanity and a group of alien races called the Covenant. By the time the first game starts, humanity has just suffered a devastating loss and is on the brink of losing. Of course, that's when Halo is discovered: an ancient weapon created by the long-dead Forerunners. Halo's true purpose, and what it was built to destroy, are revealed through the course of the first game, and have far-reaching effects through the initial trilogy.
