Saitou has been my favorite character in Rurouni Kenshin since about the moment he first showed up. The Kyoto arc is my favorite of the series, and every time Saitou took focus I was absolutely enthralled. It wasn't that I didn't like the other characters (on the contrary, I love almost all of the characters in the series) — it was just that Saitou hit a lot of things on my "favorite character" checklist. Started out as an antagonist and ended up helping out the good guys? Check. Endless snark? Check. Cool as hell? You betcha.

Honestly, it's been over ten years since I first read and watched RuroKen, and not once has Saitou slipped from his position as my favorite character. Now that's some staying power.

The name of this site comes from one of the translations of his signature motto, "aku soku zan." Another translation is "slay evil immediately," but the Viz translation was the one I read and this translation is the one that's stuck with me. Plus it's got a certain ring to it.
